This policy explains what information the Signl Health app collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Signl Health is operated by Signl Advisory ("Signl," "we," "us"). If you have questions, email us at andrew@signladvisory.com. Use of the app is also covered by our Terms of Use. If you live in Washington, Nevada or another state with a consumer health data law, also see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
The short version: we collect the health and fitness data you choose to connect so we can turn it into recovery, sleep and nutrition guidance for you. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we never use your health data for advertising or marketing.
When you create an account, we receive your name, email address and a unique account ID from the sign-in method you use (email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Google). If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a private relay address from Apple instead.
With your permission, Signl Health reads data from Apple Health, which may include: sleep and sleep stages, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), steps, active and resting calories, workouts, weight, blood oxygen (SpO2), respiratory rate, and nutrition (calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat) that other apps have saved to Apple Health. You choose which categories to share in the iOS Health permissions screen, and the app only reads data. The one exception is optional cycle tracking: period days you log there are saved to Apple Health if you allow it (see below).
If you choose to import labs from Apple Health Records, and give separate permission in iOS, Signl Health also reads the lab results in your clinical health records (such as the test name, value, unit, date and reference range). We read only lab results, not other parts of your medical record, and store the results with your account so you can see them in the app.
If you connect a supported wearable or fitness service (currently Garmin Connect, and Fitbit or Pixel Watch through Google Health), we receive the data you authorize from that service, such as sleep, heart rate, HRV, stress, body battery, activities and training load, along with the access tokens needed to keep the connection working.
Garmin only sends new data as it is recorded and cannot resend older data later. So when you connect Garmin, we also store the other health summaries you authorize that the app does not display yet, such as blood pressure, body composition, hydration, nutrition, respiration, skin temperature and fitness age, so future features can use them without you losing history. We do not receive GPS tracks or activity files. If you choose to upload a Garmin Connect data export, the app opens the file on your device and sends us only the daily summaries and activity summaries from the last 60 days. Disconnecting Garmin stops any new data, and deleting your account deletes everything we stored from it.
If you connect Fitbit or Pixel Watch, you sign in with your Google account and choose which Google Health data to share. Signl Health only reads it: sleep and sleep stages, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, skin temperature, VO2 max, steps, calories, distance and workouts, for the last 60 days and going forward. We use it only to show your data in the app and to power the features you use, such as your scores, plan and, if you turn on AI features, the AI coach. We do not use it for advertising, sell it, or let people read it except with your consent, for security, or when the law requires it. Disconnecting removes our access to your Google account, and deleting your account deletes everything we stored from it. Signl Health's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy and the Google Health API Developer and User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Cycle tracking is off unless you turn it on in Settings. We never turn it on, or assume anything about you, from your profile. When it is on, the app reads the period days (menstrual flow) in Apple Health and lets you log period days yourself. This information is kept only on your device. It is not sent to our servers, not stored with your account, not shared with our AI provider or any other third party, and not used for advertising or marketing. Period days you log are saved to Apple Health when you give iOS permission to do so; otherwise they are saved only in the app on your device. The app uses them to estimate your cycle phase for training and recovery context. These estimates are not for birth control or for planning a pregnancy.
Turning cycle tracking off deletes the period days the app kept on your device. Period days in Apple Health stay there, where you control them in the Health app. You can remove the app's access to them at any time in iOS Settings.
This includes your goals and profile details you provide (such as age, height, sex and weight), workouts and sets you log, meals and foods you log (including foods you search for, barcodes you scan, and meals you describe in words or by voice or log from a photo), journal entries, messages you send to the in-app AI coach, and lab reports you import. Lab report images or PDFs you import are sent to our AI provider to read the results and are not stored. We store only the extracted results (such as the panel, marker, value, unit, date and reference range) with your account.
If you add a body composition (DEXA) scan, a photo or PDF of the report, or text you paste, is sent to our AI provider to read the results and is not stored. You can also type the numbers yourself, in which case nothing is sent. We keep only the results you confirm (such as body fat, lean mass, bone density and the scan date) with your account.
If you use the Apple Watch app, the sets you log on your watch are sent to the app on your iPhone and saved like any other workout.
If you subscribe to Signl Pro, Apple handles the payment. We never receive your card or billing details. Apple sends us a signed record of the purchase (a transaction ID, the plan, and when it renews, ends or is refunded), which we store with your account to unlock Pro. If you redeem a Pro code, we store the code and when it was used.
From the data above, the app and our servers calculate scores and targets such as Recovery, Readiness, Sleep, sleep debt, nutrition scores, and calorie and macro targets. These are stored with your account.
If you turn on notifications, we store a push notification token for your device. Notifications can show health and training details, such as your sleep, HRV or today's workout, on your lock screen; you can turn them off or hide previews in iOS Settings. Our hosting providers also keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, request times and error messages) to keep the service running and secure. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics tracking tools in the app.
The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to. When you scan a barcode, the image is processed on your device to read the barcode and is not stored by us. When you log a meal from a photo, that photo is sent to our AI provider to estimate the foods and nutrition in it; we keep only the foods you confirm, not the photo.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your health data for advertising, marketing or data brokering, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Data from Apple Health and connected wearables is used only to provide health and fitness features to you. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except the service providers listed below that help us run the app, or when you direct us to. We do not use it for research without your separate, explicit consent. Menstrual cycle information stays on your device and is never sent to us or to any third party.
We share information only with service providers that process it on our behalf to run Signl Health, under agreements that limit their use of it:
We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
Signl Health includes AI features that send some of your personal data, which can include health data, to a third-party AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a response. We do not send your personal data to the AI provider until you have said yes.
You can choose to connect Signl Health to an AI assistant you use, such as Claude or ChatGPT (Settings > Connected apps > AI connectors). You sign in with Signl and approve the connection. The assistant can then read your workouts, cardio, sleep and recovery, food log, weight, body scans, journal, lab results, goals and plan setup, and it can send workouts and plan changes that wait in Signl until you accept them. Cycle tracking is not included.
Your data is stored on servers operated by our service providers in the United States. Signl Health is offered in the United States. If you use it while outside the United States, your information is still transferred to and processed in the United States. We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit each account to its own data, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your data.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Lab report images and PDFs are never stored; only the results extracted from them are kept, and those are deleted along with the rest of your data when you delete your account. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information and health data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited information to meet legal obligations.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, such as the right to know, access, correct, delete or port your information, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We honor these requests for all users. To make a request, email andrew@signladvisory.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, we will tell you why, and you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal" in the subject line; we will answer your appeal within 45 days and tell you how to contact your state attorney general if you disagree.
Signl Health provides general fitness and wellness information. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Talk to a qualified professional about medical questions.
Signl Health is for adults 18 and older. It is not directed to children or teens, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
